Excerpt:

“Good evening,” he says, as casually as if he saw me last week instead of six months ago.
“Christopher,” I say, in case he hasn’t noticed. A table like this is reserved for VIPs or very special guests. Or ones with deep pockets. “This is the chef’s table. We’re sitting at the chef’s table in Koi.”
“Is that good? I thought they just ran out of regular tables.”
“Did you just make a joke. Oh my God. You did.”
The chef chooses that moment to introduce himself, a rather effusive man with a comforting smile and a thick Japanese accent. He says he’ll forgive that we drink champagne as long as we try the sake pairing he sends with every course. And he personally serves the amuse bouche, a tuna sashimi lollie on a fennel cilantro salad with ponzu dressing that makes me moan despite myself.
“Dear God,” I say when we’re alone again, my eyes still closed with the wonder of that single bite. There’s salt and citrus, and basically this is what heaven tastes like. “Did you spend all two billion dollars to get this table? Because it’s worth it.”
When I open my eyes Christopher is watching me, a strange expression on his face. He hasn’t touched the plate in front of him. He seems more interested in the way that I dip my finger in the ponzu dressing and lime foam to savor the last drops. I’m not sure that love is on the table, but if the glitter in his eyes is anything to go by, sex is definitely an option.
“One billion,” he says, almost absently.
I blink. “What?”
“Only one billion is mine. The other half belongs to Sutton.”
It’s like a bucket of cold water dumped over my head. “Why did you bring me here?”
One dark eyebrow rises. “You’re the one who insisted we meet in person.”
“And you’re the one who brought me here.”
The long pause that follows isn’t filled with hearts and roses. He does not secretly love me, and I feel like a fool for even considering the possibility. Because he took me out to dinner? It’s really a good thing I don’t date much, because I’m terrible at it.
“I invested in the restaurant,” he says finally. “It helps to have your take.”
“Because I have such a refined palate?”
“Because you were born rich,” he says, his voice flat. “You know what rich people like.”
It takes my breath away, and I’m left staring at him with the most incredible taste on my tongue. That’s all I am to him? A rich girl with nothing better to do with my time than give him advice on his new restaurant? Meanwhile I was gullible enough to think he actually wanted to spend time with me. It isn’t right. It isn’t fair, but then Christopher Bardot has never played fair.

Review:

Skye Warren’s Evolution of Man is the stunning conclusion of The Trust Fund duet. I have been anticipating this release since the first book. And I got to say that it absolutely did not disappoint. I have never been more satisfied in reading the end of a series as much as this one did.
The sheer chemistry of Harper and Christopher was totally off the charts. Although it may seem that they are totally at odds with each other, it cannot be denied that they have strong feelings for each other. And with Sutton getting in the mix, there’s bound to be a lot of tension and more complications.
I commend how Skye Warren conveyed Harper’s anxiety of losing her mom to a terminal illness. It was so heartwrenchly devastating to see how she went to the five stages of grief of losing her loved one.
What I love about Skye Warren’s world is how the lives of her previous characters are interconnected with each other. It was really a treat to see glimpses of Avery, Gabriel, Damon, and Blue getting on with their lives. It made the Tanglewood neighborhood as real as the characters that are in it.
I can’t wait to read more about Skye Warren’s characters from Tanglewood.

SYNOPSIS

Sex is his weapon.
Power is her drug.

Caesar Accardo is gasoline. Mostly harmless while stable, but Aria holds the match to set the dishonored Cosa Nostra prince on fire in more ways than one. And if he burns down everything in his path because of it—so be it.

The problem is … she just wasn’t prepared for all of him.

Aria De Rose is a hurricane. Amazing from afar, but destructive up close. Caesar keeps getting pulled into the Camorra queen’s plans in her effort to gain power, but he’s a better player than she knows.

The thing is … women like her are the reason why rules are meant to be broken.

Philadelphia isn’t ready for game these two are playing—the sacrifices they make might not be worth it in the end, and someone will always lose in a war.

They’re broken, so very vicious, and they are not the good guys. But for every villain in the world, there’s a monster at his back who made him that way.

And monsters like those hide in plain sight.

Note: This is a standalone romance with content that some might find triggering. Be warned, and read with caution.

Review:

Bethany-Kris is on a roll this 2018! I literally love all her releases this year and I’m also highly anticipating EVERY SINGLE BOOK that she is set to release this year. I’ve been waiting for Dishonored for a year now and it absolutely blew me away! It defied all my expectations of what a standalone novel should be and believe me, my expectations were really high as I’ve been a fan of the Seasons of Betrayal universe since it came out.

I was skeptical at first by the spin-off from the Seasons series since the expectations vs reality thing will always be present in this kind of novel. But, wow. Dishonored’s character plot line is so intricately written that you find yourself so invested with each character’s trials and tribulations. Believe me, the first chapter will really get you so hooked that you’ll find yourself loving and hating how the story unfolds as you read it.

What stands out the most in this book is that both the hero and heroine are nothing like you’ve ever seen before. They are both irreverent, unapologetic, and cunning in their own way. Aria De Rose has her own personal agenda and a power struggle within the Camorra organization that she is trying to win at all cost no matter what the consequences.

I love Aria because she is the epitome of what a strong independent female character should be. She has channeled all her pain and hardship into a relentless driving force that will make her come out on top and be the last woman standing.

And of course, we have Ceasar Accardo on the other end of the spectrum. His “I-don’t-give-a-fuck” attitude instantly endeared me from the get-go. Some may find his character hard to like at first but what lies beneath his asshole attitude is a person who was forced to grow up too soon from the abuse and neglect of his household.

These two didn’t lead perfect lives. They are scarred and flawed. They struggled and fought to get what they want. But despite all the odds against their favor, they still found a way to choose to be with each other. They didn’t get to live “normal” lives and finally get to live happily ever after in the end. They have managed to find a compromise that works for them because of their mutual love and respect for each other. And that is something what I think is the most enthralling part of this book.

Bane by LJ Shen Blog Tour and Review

SBPR-BT-BANNER-2

Bane-Cover-Facebook

Bane, the highly-anticipated next standalone in the Sinners of Saint Series by L.J. Shen is LIVE

Bane

Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief and a fraud.

Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.

Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.

Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.

Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter

Hot as hell, cold as ice.

I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.

She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.

She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.

More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.

Little does she know, I have the f****** teeth for it.

EXCERPT

Bane

Then.

A liar.

A con.

A godless thief.

My reputation was a big wave that I rode, one that swallowed everyone around me, drowning every attempt to fuck with what’s mine.

I’d been known as a stoner, but power was my real drug of choice. Money meant nothing. It was tangible, and therefore easy to lose. See, to me, people were a game. One I’d always known how to win.

Move the rooks around.

Change the queen when necessary.

Guard the king at all fucking times.

I was never distracted, never deterred, and never jealous.

So, imagine my surprise when I found myself being all three at once.

It was a siren with coal black hair who robbed me of riding the biggest wave I’d seen that summer. Of my precious attention. Of my goddamn breath.

She glided from the ocean to the beach like nightfall.

I crouched down, straddling my surfboard, gawking.

Edie and Beck stopped beside me, floating on their boards in my periphery.

“This one’s taken by Emery Wallace,” Edie had warned. Thief.

“This one’s the hottest masterpiece in town.” Beck had chuckled. Con.

“More importantly, she only dates rich bastards.” Liar.

I had all the ingredients to pull her in.

Her body was a patch of fresh snow. White, fair, like the sun shone through her, never quite soaking in. Her skin defied nature, her ass defied my sanity, but it was the words on her back that made my logic rebel.

It wasn’t her curves or the way she swayed her hips like a dangling, poisonous apple that warranted my reaction to her.

It was that tattoo I had noticed when she swam close to me earlier, the words trickling down the nape of her neck and back in a straight arrow.

My Whole Life Has Been Pledged to This Meeting with You

Pushkin.

I only knew one person who went gaga over the Russian poet, and, like the famous Alexander, he was currently six feet under.

My friends began to paddle back to shore. I couldn’t move. It felt like my balls were ten tons heavy. I didn’t believe in love at first sight. Lust, maybe, but even that wasn’t the word I was looking for. No. This girl fucking intrigued me.

“What’s her name?” I snatched Beck’s ankle, yanking him back to me. Edie stopped pedaling and looked back, her gaze ping-ponging between us.

“Doesn’t matter, bro.”

“What’s. Her. Name?” I repeated through a locked jaw.

“Dude, she’s, like, way young.”

“I will not repeat myself a third time.”

Beck’s throat bobbed with a swallow. He knew damn well that I didn’t mess around. If she was legal—it was on.

“Jesse Carter.”

Jesse Carter was going to be mine before she even knew me.

Before I even knew her.

Before her life turned upside down and her fate rewrote itself with her blood.

So here was the truth that even my lying ass wouldn’t admit later on in our story—I wanted her before.

Before she became business.

Before the truth caged her in.

Before the secrets gushed out.

I never did get to surf that day.

My surfboard broke.

Should have known it was an omen.

My heart was going to be next in line.

And for a small chick, she did one hell of a fucking job obliterating it.

Review:

Bane is one hot and steamy read that you will definitely have a hard time putting down once you read the first few chapters. LJ Shen’s books will always make you root for the bad boys and that what has got me so intrigued in the first place. Bane is a brooding and tortured hero that is really too charming for his own good. And he’s exactly the kind of guy that Jesse Carter needs to coax her out of her shell. Amidst all the tragedy, betrayal, and lies; there was love, passion, and affection.

Personally, I think this book is one of LJ Shen’s best work. I read all the Sinners of Saint series and while Vicious will still have a special place on my romance bookshelf, Bane might have topped that. I just simply loved how the author portrayed Jesse’s struggles of being a rape victim and how she coped with it. She dealt with the aftermath of the incident while the whole town shamed her, even her parents.

It’s no wonder why she and Bane were truly made for each other. They understood each other’s pain and motivation and they accept each other for who they really are. Despite their difficult past, they have found a way to be with each other without prejudice, just love.

Bad Intentions by Charleigh Rose Blog Tour and Review

Title: Bad Intentions
Series: Bad Love #2
Author: Charleigh Rose
Genre: NA/Contemorary Romance
Release Date: April 30, 2018
Lo
Moving to River’s Edge was supposed to be a fresh start.
Away from chaos.
Away from bad influences and worse relationships.
All I wanted was to give my little brother more of a chance than I ever had.
It should’ve been simple.
I didn’t count on my transgressions following me.
And I definitely didn’t count on meeting Dare.
Tall, tortured, and tattooed.
A Lost Boy through and through.
Falling for someone like him was asking for heartache.
But I was a sucker for punishment.

Dare
I had a routine.
Eat, work, sleep, repeat, only ever doing the bare minimum to keep up appearances.
I kept my circle small and my guard high.
I spent years making sure I didn’t repeat the mistakes of my past, forming an impenetrable layer of ice around my heart.
Then Logan showed up in my town, in my tattoo shop, testing my patience along with my self-control.
She was fire and I was ice.
I should’ve stayed away.
But I had been cold for far too long.

HOSTED BY:

I was so looking forward to the next installment of Charleigh’s Bad Love series after I read Bad Habit and the Yard Sale novella. And Bad Intentions totally did not disappoint! Dare and Lo’s chemistry was totally off the charts. I loved how their individual struggles brought them closer together and in the end, that created a deeper understanding between the characters.
Bad Intentions was a reprieve to your typical romantic love story since it narrates the gritty complexities of real-life struggles. Here we have Logan who is trying to have a fresh start with her younger brother in River’s Edge. She’s had a rough life and moving away from home seemed like the best option for her to survive. Then she met Dare. Another lost soul with a tortured past. It might seem cliche but they are truly meant for each other.
I loved how Charleigh Rose gave glimpses of Dare and Lo’s vulnerabilities and struggles but didn’t dwell on the negativity of their lives. Bad Intentions is truly one great work that will give readers the right amount of romance that will be a perfect reading material over the weekend.

Review:

The continuation of Cross and Catherine’s story in Revere has set a nostalgic atmosphere between the two characters. Even after seven years of separation, their love still remained constant that it almost feels like it was just yesterday. This kind of reminiscent tone throughout the whole book has left me feeling even more invested in the story that I literally couldn’t put the book down the moment I finally got my copy!

I love how Bethany-Kris perfectly showed how Cross and Catherine have matured and became comfortable in their own skin. For Cross, he finally learned how to control his hot-headed temper to better prepare him for inheriting the boss’ seat of the Donati family. But what’s more remarkable was Catherine’s transformation. She has finally found her place in the world of organized crime and she was not apologetic for it, since she is still a Marcello after all.

I am absolutely thrilled about the way Bethany-Kris told their love story and how they grew into their own person. Following The Legacy Series is like watching your nieces and nephews grow up before your eyes. And seeing your favorite characters get the happily ever after they deserve is really the best thing about reading a romance novel.

Cross’ marriage proposal was probably one of the sweetest things I’ve read in all of romance novel history. It was a perfect nod to their entire romantic love story and their promise of Always. The memories that they shared growing up is something that they both cherished and after all that’s happened between them, they also used those shared memories to find a way back to each other. As cliche as it sounds, for Cross and Catherine, first love really never dies.

Unruly can’t come soon enough. I am so excited to see the life that these two built together. The principe and principessa all grown up and ruling their own kingdom. Need I say more?

Review:

Book Quote Bethany-Kris Always

Cross x Catherine.
True love written in mafia blood.
This is not your typical coming of age love story. Always showed how the tribulations and heartaches of first loves are told amidst the world of the Mafia. It is absolutely wonderful and so brilliantly written that I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book already!

I have always been a fan of the novels of Bethany-Kris and each release is always marked in my calendar. But Cross and Catherine’s series are probably the one I anticipated most this year. My interest in Cross and Catherine was piqued way back when the Legacy Prequel Novella was published. The convergence of the Mafia world in this series is absolutely amazing and I’ve always admired the story continuity in all of Bethany-Kris’ works. You will see your favorite characters from the Filthy Marcellos and Donati Bloodlines series, but at the same time, the story cleverly unfolds in a way that you don’t have to read the previous series to get immersed in Bethany-Kris’ mafia world.  Let me tell you though, once you get your hands on one book, you’ll probably crave reading the other series as well.

I was so lucky to receive the ARC copy of this one and I started reading it right away. I probably re-read the novels five times by now and for every single re-read, I have always found something to bookmark and highlight in the novel. Because yes, it is THAT GOOD!

Up until my third re-read, I was convinced that Cross and Catherine met too soon. If they have met a little later and have matured on their own, maybe they would have handled their relationship better. Especially for Catherine, whose fear of being a disappointment to her parents became a huge factor growing up. I thought that they had become so dependent on each other at such a very young age. And that made it difficult for them to mature and forge their way to the world on their own.

But after reading it for the fifth time, I scratched that thought entirely. Because I realized that when it comes to Cross x Catherine, they are each other’s ALWAYS. It’s not a case of “if it’s meant to be, it will be” kind of love story because at the end of the day, this couple will ALWAYS be meant to be.

Cross always had a sort of hero complex when it comes to Catherine. Their sweet yet peculiar meet-cute is probably a testament of that. With his dark eyes, bruised knuckles and bloody mouth, Cross instantly made a mark to Catherine and since then, their love was inevitable. All throughout their teenage years, Cross has always been Catherine’s knight in shining armor.

That’s why it was so heartbreaking to see the moment towards the end of the novel when Cross finally realized that he is unable to save Catherine from herself, no matter how much he loves her. What’s reassuring though is the fact that despite everything that they’ve been through, it was their love for each other that remained constant. I cannot wait to see the older and more mature versions of Cross and Catherine in the next book, Revere! November 6th can’t come soon enough!

Review:

Taylor Sullivan The Boy I Hate Book Quote

Sammie and Tristan’s story is about giving love a second chance. The plot was wonderfully laid out between their past and present encounters. Their road trip to New York was a sort of serendipitous moment that gave them an opportunity to reconnect and reconcile their childhood memories with the present.

I loved how the author portrayed Sammie’s struggle with her career. I think women in their 20s can totally relate with the pressure of finding a stable job as opposed to pursuing their passion. She was at that point in her life when it seems like all her best laid plans in life were at a standstill. With her best friend moving to New York a few months back, she no longer had a steady support system that she can rely on. Plus, her career-driven boyfriend is not so reliable either.

It was really amazing to see how her road trip to New York with Tristan has put her life in perspective.  It also gave her a chance to give The Boy She Hates another chance. After six long years of separation, both of them have matured enough to finally admit their feelings for each other. Realizing how toxic her relationship was with her ex-boyfriend was just another icing on the cake. I think she forced herself to be attracted to Steven 6 years ago just because her romance with Tristan didn’t pan out. And due to her own insecurities, she didn’t want to admit to herself that being with Steven is not right for her.

Overall, The Boy I Hate is one great romance that showed how the characters have developed from lovestruck teens to mature adults in the span of six years. Despite the odds, they still found a way to find their way back to each other.
