In a cold, empty castle, a young queen is dying.
Weak. Fragile. Disgraced.
But Queen Whitestone is not alone in her final days.
She has her beloved sister.

Until a wicked king rides onto her land.
Arrogant. Insufferable. Demanding.
King Bloodsun has come with an offer…peace in trade for a bride.
He wants the princess.

The fiery king won’t take no for an answer.
He vows to keep the cold queen captive until she gives in to his demands.

A queen bows for no one, though.
Not even when she’s frail and fading away.
She’ll tap into her strength, protecting the only family she has left.

The king is about to learn why they call her the cruel one…

Review:

Cold Queen by K Webster was I wonderful revelation. With characters like Elzira and Yanna, you’ll definitely know that this is an adult spinoff of Frozen. I loved the great world-building of this book; especially how they have taken homage to Frozen but created a whole new thing altogether.

As the second book of the Sinister collection, this definitely did not disappoint. It has all the makings of a great medieval fantasy novel with its court intrigues, ice and fire powers, and zombie-like creatures called the damned.

Elzira and Ryke are one great couple. I usually don’t take much liking to a retelling but this is one great exception. It doesn’t alienate readers who loved the movie, but it can still stand alone on its own. And that’s what makes K Webster’s writing excellent in this novel. There was a perfect balance of steamy romance and fantasy.

I’ve read the first two books of the Sinister Collection and now I can’t wait to read the rest!

The Vetrov name comes with expectation.
My role in this world is simple: do as Father asks and live my life how he planned it.

My future is already written: run the empire.
Old Values. Old Rule. Old Money.
Until her.

Everything I do lacks purpose.
Everything I do is empty.
Women. Money. Power. It meant nothing.
Until her.

When the Volkov rose showed up at my home a disgraced package, hand-delivered by a Vasiliev prince, I began paving my own path.
I vowed to make her bloom once more.

She consumed me.
Her. Her. Her.

But you can’t love a rose and expect not to be damaged by her thorns.
She cut me too deep.
And I bled out.
My soul fled.
All that’s left is a cold, calculating monster.

I am Veniamin.
Volcanic. Victorious. Valiant. Vetrov.
When you enter my world to play games, prepare to lose.
In the end, I always find the thorn in my side, and I pluck it right out.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of you seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Review:

This is one of my most awaited series installment in 2018. When I read Vlad early this year, I was instantly hooked into the vicious world of the Russian mafia. I love how the story of The V Games intertwines with one another. The unrepentant ruthlessness of each character will make you want to hate them all but you can’t help but love them nonetheless. That was especially true for Veniamin “Ven” Vetrov, the revered V Games champion and one of the heirs to Russia’s mob royalty. I loved that despite everything he had been through, he still had a soft spot on Diana Volkov.

Though it was never in the works for them to be together, fate somehow managed to bring them closer to each other. Diana who was shunned by her own family from her past indiscretion took refuge in Ven’s arms. I loved how the authors did not hold back in revealing the atrocity of the mob world and how the characters suffered (in one way or another) from the consequences of living their lives in the criminal world.

But amidst all of that, Diana remained victorious. In a world that took everything from her, she was able to get retribution with a vengeance. I love how the authors portrayed the contrast between the two Volkov sisters – Diana and Irina. They were as different as night and day but they still found a way to carve their own place in the Russian mob. In the end, Diana was able to get her revenge on the people who betrayed her. It was stunning how the authors narrated her victory in the V Games. It was like watching a scene straight out of the Hunger Games!

Diana is one badass woman that didn’t need a knight to slay dragons for her because she slew them herself. That alone is enough of a reason to give this book a 5-star rating it deserves.
