SYNOPSIS

For ten summers Claire and her mother had been guests at the Prescott’s beach house at Kelly’s Cove. And for ten years she played with Mallory and her twin brother, Colin. But it wasn’t until she returned after college graduation for her last summer there, that she realized Colin had grown into a guy who made her knees knock just by smiling at her. Being from different worlds, she knew nothing would come from her attraction to him.

Having returned to the states from studying abroad for four years, the last person Colin thought he’d find staying in his bedroom was Claire Ashton. Lanky and awkward during her adolescent years, he had to look twice to make sure this was the same girl. After a week together it was obvious he’d overlooked something before, because he felt things for her he’d never experienced before. There was only one problem—his last name and all that came with it would never permit him to be with her.

In the end, it’s either love or prestige that will win in the game of love.

Review:

Rewrite the Stars is reminiscent of the classic tales of love that we have seen from star-crossed lovers like Romeo and Juliet or Tristan and Isolde. It has been so long since I found a good love story that reminds me why I love the “you and me against the world” plot line so much.

Colin and Claire were meant to be together but circumstances has kept them apart that it seems like bridging their gap from each other will only keep them apart. I got swept into their love story almost immediately! It made me so engrossed with their story, the intrigue, the secrets, and the lies surrounding that world.

This book is definitely recommended for those who are hopeless romantics at heart. It is so touching and heartwarming to see these characters get the happy ending they deserve.

**Keep your friends close and your enemies closer…**

I’ve hated Rachel Dawson since I was seven years old. My next door neighbor and number one sworn enemy, she’s the reason why almost all of our childhood fights ended with me setting something of hers on fire. (Or, vice versa.)

She snitched on me when I broke curfew.

I snitched on her when she lied about having a boyfriend.

We went back and forth like this throughout high school, both vowing to never talk to each other again when we went off to college.

But that was until she showed up at my apartment during my senior year and asked me for a temporary place to stay. Until I realized just how much between us had changed, and the line I thought we’d never cross became harder and harder to ignore…

The Downside of Love by Meghan Quinn Blog Tour and ARC Review

This isn’t a story about a love triangle. There is no triangle involved.

This isn’t a story about an accidental pregnancy. Although having a baby with her . . . I would.

This isn’t a story about lies and deception, even though at times I’ve lied to myself.

No, this is my story.

A story about sacrifice.

A story about a man who fell in love with the wrong girl.

A story I wish I never had to tell.

This is a story about the true meaning of the downside of love.

Review:

With the obvious cliffhanger that was in the first book, I was really excited to find out how the story will unfold in the culmination of the Blue Line Duet. But at the same time, I was also dreading its outcome. Since I became so invested in the characters right away, I didn’t want their story arc to end up in a tragedy.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Meghan Quinn’s work, but this one far exceeded my expectations. I was floored by the cliffhanger in the first book, but I should have expected that there will be more pleasant surprises after reading the second one. The Downside of Love is nothing like how I expected it would be and that I think is one of the main reasons why I was so obsessed with reading it from the get-go. I was thoroughly amazed and even more surprised at how the story all came together in the end.

Meghan Quinn delivered an absolutely emotional romance that I have never read from her works before this duet. The plight of each character was so wonderfully woven together that you get to sympathize with every one of them as they all tried to figure out their lives. I must admit that the plot totally threw a curveball that may have defied my expectation, but that I think, is one of the main highlights of the story. It teaches us that a semblance of happily ever afters can be found in even the most unlikely circumstances.

Rory changed everything.

Quickly, my one-track mind started to bend.

Each kiss faded decade-long dreams.

And with one single incident, I fly off course.

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”

Review:
The Upside of Falling by Meghan Quinn is literally one of those books that you just can’t help but relate to. I don’t know why but this book just seems to perfectly capture the nuances of the Millennial in me. I loved how each character struggled to find their way into the world, which is similar to what any twenty-something like me would have dealt about.

This is a story about Colby and Rory who managed to fall in love with each other despite the struggles that they have been through in their childhood. The Upside of Falling will definitely take you into an emotional rollercoaster that you wouldn’t have thought would be possible. I loved how the story showed Colby’s vulnerability and how it showed a whole new perspective on dealing with a tough childhood. It makes you so invested in the characters that you will find yourself cheering for him in achieving his dreams of becoming a fighter pilot.

But the problem is, he would have to be separated from Rory in order to fulfill those dreams. It was a really tough call to make and eventually, Rory was selfless enough to accept that circumstance would have to keep them apart. What got me into a tailspin though was THAT cliffhanger ending! I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment of the Blue Line Duet. T

Review:

The sequel to KA Linde’s The Wright Love is the perfect culmination of Sutton and David’s love story. Amidst the lies, secrets, and intense family drama, they have finally managed to set aside their differences and be together.

I loved how the author didn’t hold back on how she portrayed Sutton’s grief over losing Maverick, her first husband. That tragedy was like a weight around her neck that made her fears about starting over again magnified by a hundred. And David had always been her constant ever since Maverick was gone. It was no wonder why David’s betrayal really cut deep for Sutton.

But in the end, Sutton did get the happily ever after she deserves. It might have taken awhile before everything had fallen into place but despite everything else, one thing is for sure, David will always be there for her. This is why reading the Epilogue was so heartwarming because any avid Wright reader would know that having David, Sutton, and her son Jason together as a family is something that is truly meant to be.

MY REVIEW

I was pleasantly surprised after reading R. Scarlett’s work since this was my first time to read her book. And I must say, it got me so intrigued that I couldn’t bear to put it down for even a minute. Nathaniel is such a swoon-worthy hero that is totally oozing with privilege and sex appeal. I mean what’s not to love right?

Juliette and Nathaniel’s story is almost reminiscent of Rory and Logan’s story from Gilmore Girls. That is if they’d had their happily ever after. I love how Nathaniel persisted in making Juliette notice her all throughout their college years. While Juliette may have thought of it as a rivalry, it was so much more for Nathaniel. And then one summer job led to another, which eventually solidified that they’re really meant to be together.

I loved how this book tells a story about two driven Type A characters who found love in each other. Despite their social differences, it still eventually ended up together. I was so thrilled after reading the epilogue in the book which I think is the best kind of happy ending that this two characters deserve.

Review:

I’ve read the other stories of the Wright siblings but this one definitely tugs at the heartstrings. I have seen glimpses of Sutton in the other Wright books and I must say that this story has been a long time coming!

I was already invested with Sutton and David even before I’ve read their book! Sutton was coping with the tragic loss of losing her husband, Maverick, at such a very young age. Their happily ever after was just starting and seeing how that has been taken away in an instant really left Sutton with the shell of a woman she once was. Amidst all that, taking care of her infant son left her too pre-occupied from grieving.

And then here’s David Calloway a friend that has been constant despite all the turmoil that has been happening in her life. I find it so charming to read how their relationship transitioned into so much more. David has always been patient and supportive of her and I love how exactly he knows what kind of love she needs at the exact time she needs it. He never pressured her but he still remained constant.

I can’t wait to read the conclusion of their love story! Amidst all the secrets and the lies, I do hope that Sutton will finally get the happily ever after she deserves.

Bane by LJ Shen Blog Tour and Review

SBPR-BT-BANNER-2

Bane-Cover-Facebook

Bane, the highly-anticipated next standalone in the Sinners of Saint Series by L.J. Shen is LIVE

Bane

Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief and a fraud.

Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.

Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.

Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.

Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter

Hot as hell, cold as ice.

I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.

She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.

She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.

More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.

Little does she know, I have the f****** teeth for it.

EXCERPT

Bane

Then.

A liar.

A con.

A godless thief.

My reputation was a big wave that I rode, one that swallowed everyone around me, drowning every attempt to fuck with what’s mine.

I’d been known as a stoner, but power was my real drug of choice. Money meant nothing. It was tangible, and therefore easy to lose. See, to me, people were a game. One I’d always known how to win.

Move the rooks around.

Change the queen when necessary.

Guard the king at all fucking times.

I was never distracted, never deterred, and never jealous.

So, imagine my surprise when I found myself being all three at once.

It was a siren with coal black hair who robbed me of riding the biggest wave I’d seen that summer. Of my precious attention. Of my goddamn breath.

She glided from the ocean to the beach like nightfall.

I crouched down, straddling my surfboard, gawking.

Edie and Beck stopped beside me, floating on their boards in my periphery.

“This one’s taken by Emery Wallace,” Edie had warned. Thief.

“This one’s the hottest masterpiece in town.” Beck had chuckled. Con.

“More importantly, she only dates rich bastards.” Liar.

I had all the ingredients to pull her in.

Her body was a patch of fresh snow. White, fair, like the sun shone through her, never quite soaking in. Her skin defied nature, her ass defied my sanity, but it was the words on her back that made my logic rebel.

It wasn’t her curves or the way she swayed her hips like a dangling, poisonous apple that warranted my reaction to her.

It was that tattoo I had noticed when she swam close to me earlier, the words trickling down the nape of her neck and back in a straight arrow.

My Whole Life Has Been Pledged to This Meeting with You

Pushkin.

I only knew one person who went gaga over the Russian poet, and, like the famous Alexander, he was currently six feet under.

My friends began to paddle back to shore. I couldn’t move. It felt like my balls were ten tons heavy. I didn’t believe in love at first sight. Lust, maybe, but even that wasn’t the word I was looking for. No. This girl fucking intrigued me.

“What’s her name?” I snatched Beck’s ankle, yanking him back to me. Edie stopped pedaling and looked back, her gaze ping-ponging between us.

“Doesn’t matter, bro.”

“What’s. Her. Name?” I repeated through a locked jaw.

“Dude, she’s, like, way young.”

“I will not repeat myself a third time.”

Beck’s throat bobbed with a swallow. He knew damn well that I didn’t mess around. If she was legal—it was on.

“Jesse Carter.”

Jesse Carter was going to be mine before she even knew me.

Before I even knew her.

Before her life turned upside down and her fate rewrote itself with her blood.

So here was the truth that even my lying ass wouldn’t admit later on in our story—I wanted her before.

Before she became business.

Before the truth caged her in.

Before the secrets gushed out.

I never did get to surf that day.

My surfboard broke.

Should have known it was an omen.

My heart was going to be next in line.

And for a small chick, she did one hell of a fucking job obliterating it.

About LJ Shen

LJShenL.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets peoples’ birthdays and never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.

Review:

Bane is one hot and steamy read that you will definitely have a hard time putting down once you read the first few chapters. LJ Shen’s books will always make you root for the bad boys and that what has got me so intrigued in the first place. Bane is a brooding and tortured hero that is really too charming for his own good. And he’s exactly the kind of guy that Jesse Carter needs to coax her out of her shell. Amidst all the tragedy, betrayal, and lies; there was love, passion, and affection.

Personally, I think this book is one of LJ Shen’s best work. I read all the Sinners of Saint series and while Vicious will still have a special place on my romance bookshelf, Bane might have topped that. I just simply loved how the author portrayed Jesse’s struggles of being a rape victim and how she coped with it. She dealt with the aftermath of the incident while the whole town shamed her, even her parents.

It’s no wonder why she and Bane were truly made for each other. They understood each other’s pain and motivation and they accept each other for who they really are. Despite their difficult past, they have found a way to be with each other without prejudice, just love.

Bad Intentions by Charleigh Rose Blog Tour and Review

Title: Bad Intentions
Series: Bad Love #2
Author: Charleigh Rose
Genre: NA/Contemorary Romance
Release Date: April 30, 2018
Lo
Moving to River’s Edge was supposed to be a fresh start.
Away from chaos.
Away from bad influences and worse relationships.
All I wanted was to give my little brother more of a chance than I ever had.
It should’ve been simple.
I didn’t count on my transgressions following me.
And I definitely didn’t count on meeting Dare.
Tall, tortured, and tattooed.
A Lost Boy through and through.
Falling for someone like him was asking for heartache.
But I was a sucker for punishment.

Dare
I had a routine.
Eat, work, sleep, repeat, only ever doing the bare minimum to keep up appearances.
I kept my circle small and my guard high.
I spent years making sure I didn’t repeat the mistakes of my past, forming an impenetrable layer of ice around my heart.
Then Logan showed up in my town, in my tattoo shop, testing my patience along with my self-control.
She was fire and I was ice.
I should’ve stayed away.
But I had been cold for far too long.

HOSTED BY:

I was so looking forward to the next installment of Charleigh’s Bad Love series after I read Bad Habit and the Yard Sale novella. And Bad Intentions totally did not disappoint! Dare and Lo’s chemistry was totally off the charts. I loved how their individual struggles brought them closer together and in the end, that created a deeper understanding between the characters.
Bad Intentions was a reprieve to your typical romantic love story since it narrates the gritty complexities of real-life struggles. Here we have Logan who is trying to have a fresh start with her younger brother in River’s Edge. She’s had a rough life and moving away from home seemed like the best option for her to survive. Then she met Dare. Another lost soul with a tortured past. It might seem cliche but they are truly meant for each other.
I loved how Charleigh Rose gave glimpses of Dare and Lo’s vulnerabilities and struggles but didn’t dwell on the negativity of their lives. Bad Intentions is truly one great work that will give readers the right amount of romance that will be a perfect reading material over the weekend.
