A Legacy Novel

She was once his liar.

He was once her savior.

Cross Donati fills his days with the mafia, family, and responsibility. The wild boy is a distant memory. A waiting prince now sits in his place. An old debt puts the gunrunner right back into the path of his past, but he only sees his future.

Every king needs a queen.

Catherine Marcello learned how to stand on her own, and she no longer needs saving. The sly girl is far more dangerous now. A broken promise taught her how to live again. One conversation puts the hustler face to face with her first love, but she only sees heartache.

Every God needs a prayer.

The scars of their history runs deep. Every lie told, and each secret spilled hurts a little bit more.

Love does not care.

Love will not wait.

So, why does life keep standing in the way?

Review:

The continuation of Cross and Catherine’s story in Revere has set a nostalgic atmosphere between the two characters. Even after seven years of separation, their love still remained constant that it almost feels like it was just yesterday. This kind of reminiscent tone throughout the whole book has left me feeling even more invested in the story that I literally couldn’t put the book down the moment I finally got my copy!

I love how Bethany-Kris perfectly showed how Cross and Catherine have matured and became comfortable in their own skin. For Cross, he finally learned how to control his hot-headed temper to better prepare him for inheriting the boss’ seat of the Donati family. But what’s more remarkable was Catherine’s transformation. She has finally found her place in the world of organized crime and she was not apologetic for it, since she is still a Marcello after all.

I am absolutely thrilled about the way Bethany-Kris told their love story and how they grew into their own person. Following The Legacy Series is like watching your nieces and nephews grow up before your eyes. And seeing your favorite characters get the happily ever after they deserve is really the best thing about reading a romance novel.

Cross’ marriage proposal was probably one of the sweetest things I’ve read in all of romance novel history. It was a perfect nod to their entire romantic love story and their promise of Always. The memories that they shared growing up is something that they both cherished and after all that’s happened between them, they also used those shared memories to find a way back to each other. As cliche as it sounds, for Cross and Catherine, first love really never dies.

Unruly can’t come soon enough. I am so excited to see the life that these two built together. The principe and principessa all grown up and ruling their own kingdom. Need I say more?

Review:

Book Quote Bethany-Kris Always

Cross x Catherine.
True love written in mafia blood.
This is not your typical coming of age love story. Always showed how the tribulations and heartaches of first loves are told amidst the world of the Mafia. It is absolutely wonderful and so brilliantly written that I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book already!

I have always been a fan of the novels of Bethany-Kris and each release is always marked in my calendar. But Cross and Catherine’s series are probably the one I anticipated most this year. My interest in Cross and Catherine was piqued way back when the Legacy Prequel Novella was published. The convergence of the Mafia world in this series is absolutely amazing and I’ve always admired the story continuity in all of Bethany-Kris’ works. You will see your favorite characters from the Filthy Marcellos and Donati Bloodlines series, but at the same time, the story cleverly unfolds in a way that you don’t have to read the previous series to get immersed in Bethany-Kris’ mafia world.  Let me tell you though, once you get your hands on one book, you’ll probably crave reading the other series as well.

I was so lucky to receive the ARC copy of this one and I started reading it right away. I probably re-read the novels five times by now and for every single re-read, I have always found something to bookmark and highlight in the novel. Because yes, it is THAT GOOD!

Up until my third re-read, I was convinced that Cross and Catherine met too soon. If they have met a little later and have matured on their own, maybe they would have handled their relationship better. Especially for Catherine, whose fear of being a disappointment to her parents became a huge factor growing up. I thought that they had become so dependent on each other at such a very young age. And that made it difficult for them to mature and forge their way to the world on their own.

But after reading it for the fifth time, I scratched that thought entirely. Because I realized that when it comes to Cross x Catherine, they are each other’s ALWAYS. It’s not a case of “if it’s meant to be, it will be” kind of love story because at the end of the day, this couple will ALWAYS be meant to be.

Cross always had a sort of hero complex when it comes to Catherine. Their sweet yet peculiar meet-cute is probably a testament of that. With his dark eyes, bruised knuckles and bloody mouth, Cross instantly made a mark to Catherine and since then, their love was inevitable. All throughout their teenage years, Cross has always been Catherine’s knight in shining armor.

That’s why it was so heartbreaking to see the moment towards the end of the novel when Cross finally realized that he is unable to save Catherine from herself, no matter how much he loves her. What’s reassuring though is the fact that despite everything that they’ve been through, it was their love for each other that remained constant. I cannot wait to see the older and more mature versions of Cross and Catherine in the next book, Revere! November 6th can’t come soon enough!

The Boy I Hate by Taylor Sullivan ARC Review

ARC Review The Boy I Hate By Taylor Sullivan

The Boy I Hate
Taylor Sullivan
Publication Date: August 12, 2017
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Samantha Smiles and Renee Montgomery have been best friends for over a decade. They’ve shared laughs, secrets, and a mutual hatred for one person: Tristan Montgomery, Renee’s older brother. He was the guy every girl wanted, and every guy wanted to be, and it wasn’t uncommon they’d befriend his little sister just to get closer to him. Which was exactly how Samantha became Renee’s saving grace. She was the only girl Renee could trust not to fall in love with her older brother.

Until the one night Samantha spent with him alone, leaving her questioning everything she’d ever known about the blond headed heart-throb.

Years later, Renee asks Samantha to be her maid of honor. With no other option, Samantha is forced to drive cross-country with the focus of their teenage ire.

He was her first kiss.

Her only secret.

Can Samantha survive the trip cross-country with the reckless Tristan Montgomery? The guy who did what he wanted, whenever he wanted, without worry for tomorrow? Or will she discover a different side of him. One that’s sweet, funny, and maybe a little bit vulnerable. And fall completely and helplessly in love for the first time in her adult life with the one man who could cause her to lose her best friend forever?

Review:

Taylor Sullivan The Boy I Hate Book Quote

Sammie and Tristan’s story is about giving love a second chance. The plot was wonderfully laid out between their past and present encounters. Their road trip to New York was a sort of serendipitous moment that gave them an opportunity to reconnect and reconcile their childhood memories with the present.

I loved how the author portrayed Sammie’s struggle with her career. I think women in their 20s can totally relate with the pressure of finding a stable job as opposed to pursuing their passion. She was at that point in her life when it seems like all her best laid plans in life were at a standstill. With her best friend moving to New York a few months back, she no longer had a steady support system that she can rely on. Plus, her career-driven boyfriend is not so reliable either.

It was really amazing to see how her road trip to New York with Tristan has put her life in perspective.  It also gave her a chance to give The Boy She Hates another chance. After six long years of separation, both of them have matured enough to finally admit their feelings for each other. Realizing how toxic her relationship was with her ex-boyfriend was just another icing on the cake. I think she forced herself to be attracted to Steven 6 years ago just because her romance with Tristan didn’t pan out. And due to her own insecurities, she didn’t want to admit to herself that being with Steven is not right for her.

Overall, The Boy I Hate is one great romance that showed how the characters have developed from lovestruck teens to mature adults in the span of six years. Despite the odds, they still found a way to find their way back to each other.

Review:

Perfect Love By Amanda Cowen Quote

Perfect Love is a culmination of one great love story. I love how the author depicted Quinn as a strong and independent young woman who knows what she wants. I love how driven she is with her career and getting her Harvard MBA. And of course, despite all that, her love for Cash still lingered even after all the months that they spent apart.

The story picks up right after Book 1, Perfect Sense. The couple were both dealing with the fallout of their breakups. With Cash back at the Sta. Anna Tornadoes, he might seem to be at the top of his game. But he’s still grieving for having lost Quinn. While Quinn might enjoy her new life at Harvard, she was still torn up about Cash and finds it hard to move on. Until one not-so fortunate incident brought them back together.

It was great seeing them back again but the couple still had to deal with their own demons, especially Cash. It was interesting to see how the author depicted the unraveling of Cash’s alcohol addiction. He was spiralling out of control when they broke up and when got back together with Quinn, he was still struggling. It was amazing to see how much Quinn loves Cash so much that she stood by his side as he battled his addictions. And in the end, it brought them closer than before.

While the romantic relationship of both Cash and Quinn is the focus of the story, I also love Quinn’s interaction with her family, especially with her sister Lyndsey. The epilogue of the story was great. It was a great happily ever after for Quinn and Cash with a baby on the way and for Lyndsey getting married to Louis.
